AC Transit, or the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District, is the main bus service provider in the "inner" East Bay. There's a reason AC Transit has no official system map displaying all lines, due to the fact that there are too many to display. With over 160 bus routes and around 5,500 stops, AC Transit is the undisputed largest service provider in the Bay Area, with services stretching from Richmond to Fremont, a distance of over 40 miles. AC Transit's primary hub is Downtown Oakland, with a large amount of services around Downtown Berkeley as well. In addition, 29 transbay routes connect the East Bay with the San Francisco Transbay Terminal, and the Bay Area's first double decker buses are to be used on these routes by 2017. AC Transit is also building the East Bay's first bus rapid transit line, from San Leandro to Downtown Oakland, by November 2017. With 200,000 riders every weekday, AC Transit shows no signs of slowing down.
